So my 2015 was the least amount of scrapping I have done in YEARS!  Mostly because my online store, My Scraps & More, took up so much of my time.  But as many of you know, I am in the process of closing the store (check out the 60% off sale right now!  Use code CLOSEOUT60 at checkout) in hopes to get back into scrapping more!   I have also taken up quilting, which has been another fun hobby to pursue, but eats up my time as well.

I can never pick just 10, so here are my favorites in no particular order:

The 12 layouts of Christmas

Recently, I hosted a series of 12 challenges on the My Scraps & More forum and FB group based on 12 Christmas Carols.  Even though I was the host, I challenged myself to do 12 christmas layouts for these challenges.  And believe me....trying to up with challenges based on songs lyrics gets tough after a while!

So I am happy to share with you my 12 pages!  Hopefully you can find some inspiration to scrap your Holiday photos!

Fall layouts with PhotoPlay Paper and ThermOWeb DecoFoil

Hello everyone! It was so exciting to collaborate with the new PhotoPlay Paper company and one of their first releases, Autumn Day. Each fall we take a trip to the Adirondacks, and this collection was a perfect match for some of my photos.

 

 I began with some large angled pieces on each side of the layout to mimic the angles of the slopes we were climbing.  I used some of the leaf stickers from the Autumn Day 12x12 sticker sheet and scattered them down the page in a naturial flow, and then machine stitched over them with some free motion loopy swirls to provide some movement. I incorporated a few DecoFoil™ leaves in Pumpkin and Rose Gold that I punched from some of the new DecoFoil™ Toner Sheets and ran through my
laminator.

 


 To bring in a bit more foil, I added a few drops of DecoFoil™ Liquid Adhesive on the trees and went over it with some Pumpkin and Rose Gold Deco Foil to make the leave shimmer.

 

 On my 2nd page, I used a few simple grid design with some strips and squares of paper.

   


 Again, I scattered some leaves down the page to create movement.  I added a DecoFoil leaf cluster on my journaling circle.  I die cut one leaf from a DecoFoil™ Toner sheet and ran it through my laminator with the Pink Melon DecoFoil.  The other leaf is wood venneer that I covered with some DecoFoil liquid adhesive and covered with Pumpkin DecoFoil™.  Then I reapplied some more Liquid DecoFoil™ Adhesive and covered with the Pink Melon DecoFoil™. This created a two-toned effect!

Now I am SO excited to share with you my Handmade Holiday project!

Every year, I have been making simple paper advent calendars for my kiddos to do a countdown to Christmas.  This year, I wanted to make something that would LAST.  I created a quilted, circle-pocket, countdown calendar.

Supplies used:

-Fabric Scraps (mostly from the Treelicious collection from Blend Fabrics. You can see my quilt with these fabrics in my previous blog post)

-Background Fabric and backing (2 pieces about 24" x WOF)

-Batting: a piece just a bit larger than your project

-about 1/3 yd. fabric for binding

-black fabric for numbers (6"x12" piece)

-Therm O Web Heat N Bond Lite

-Therm O Web DecoFoil Hot Melt Adhesive

-Therm O Web DecoFoil Transfer Sheets in Black and Gold

-Therm O Web Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive

To begin, I search for circle shaped objects to make templates on cardstock.  I used a CD, a small paint can, and a lid from a toy container.  I cut TWO circle of the same size and print for each pocket.

Then I used the templates and traced them on the paper side of the Heat N Bond Lite.  Cut only ONE piece of interfacing per pocket. You will need to figure out how many of each size you need depending on what you cut from your fabric.

Using a dry iron, iron the Heat N Bond Lite to the WRONG side of one piece of fabric for each pocket.

Once you have all the Heat N Bond ironed on your circles, lay the out in your desired arrangement on your background fabric and pin in place, right through the paper, and iron them on one at a time.

For the pocket front, fold about a 1" flap to the wrong side of the fabric and iron to form a crease.  Stitch about 1/4" away from the folded edge and then trim off the excess fabric.

Use your Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive to glue each pocket to the front of the matching circle. Make sure just to glue around the edges to leave the pocket open.

Create a "quilt sandwich" with the front of the quilt, then the batting, and then the backing of the quilt.  Machine stitch around the entire edge of the circle with about 1/8" allowance (or more if desired). Quilt the white space as desired. I used a small, messy pebble look (I was thinking of little snowballs!).  Machine stitch on a binding.

For the numbers, cut a piece of black fabric about 6"x 12" and iron on a piece of DecoFoil Hot Melt adhesive to the top, leaving the paper ON.  Using a fabric blade and setting on your electronic die-cutting machine, cut the numbers out with your machine.  Alternatively, you could cut the numbers out by hand.


Once the numbers have been cut, peel them from your mat.  At this point, you can remove the paper on the top and place the numbers in between the parchment sheets that come with the DecoFoil Transfer Sheets.  Layer a piece of foil over the numbers (silver side down) and iron with a dry iron for about 30-45 seconds.  LET COOL COMPLETELY before you try and peel the foil from the numbers.

Once cooled, use the Fabric Fuse glue to glue the numbers to the front pocket of the circles.  And Voila, you are FINISHED!

Now just wait until December and starting planning what goodies you are going to put in each pocket!

Two Quilts Showing at this years Quilt Market!!!

Are you excited as I am about seeing all these quilts and sewing projects this week in anticipation of Quilt Market?  Audrey Yeager here today to share two quilts using fabrics from Blend and lots of DecoFoil™ products, too. First up is a quilt using the Affinity Collection Fabrics by Jessica Gonacha Swift.


At first glance of this collection, I immediately thought of fall and felt the teal is a great contrasting color to the greys, yellows, pinks, and orange. And I thought adding a bit of Gold DecoFoil™ would really add some sparkle and glow.   First, I ironed on some Heat N Bond® Lite to the back of the fabric, so that I could adhere it to my white background.  Then, I added iCraft® Deco Foil™ HotMelt adhesive to the TOP of ONE fabric so I could later add my gold foil.


I found a leaf cut file from the Silhouette American store and used a fabric blade to cut the leaf shapes from the fabric.  Since there were 9 leaves, and each leaf had 9 segments, I cut 9 different pieces of fabric and just mixed them up to get a more scrappy look.


  My background white blocks measured 12"x18".  I creased them down the middle lengthwise and arranged my leaf segments around the crease and ironed them on. Note that the paper for the Deco Foil™ Hot Melt Adhesive was STILL ON the fabric segments that were going to receive the Gold Deco Foil™.  If you added the gold foil first and then tried to iron the piece on, the gold would have have the sheen to it as it would melt in with the adhesive.  So it is important to iron on your applique pieces FIRST and then add the Foil.


Once my pieces were ironed on, I removed the paper from the fabric pieces with the Deco Foil ™Hot Melt adhesive and applied the gold Deco Foil™.  Then I appliqued around each leaf segment with a zig zag stitch and some matching threads.  


Finally I added a scrappy border around the edge of the quilt and I basted my quilt with Spray N Bond® Basting Adhesive. I quilted with a loose wavy line in between the leaves.  I chose not to quilt over the leaf segments because I wanted them to stand out more.







Next up, I was so excited to use the beautiful and colorful Treelicious Fabric Collection by Maude Asbury.





The holiday figures in each print really stood out to me, and I wanted to highlight them in the quilt.  So I went with a classic Economy Block, where the center of each block is a fussy cut image from the different prints in the collection.  I alternated the blocks with colored and white triangles on the outside to form a secondary pattern. Once I fussy cut each center square, I found used my DecoFoil™ Liquid Adhesive and covered many of the little parts in each image: a ribbon, the reflection on the ornaments, the swirls and other shapes in the flowers, and much more.



Once the adhesive was clear and tacky to the touch, I rubbed on DecoFoils™ in a variety of colors: Gold, Silver, Pink Melon, Teal, Iridescent, and even Rainbow.


 

I basted my quilt with Spray N Bond® Basting Adhesive. I then sewed each block, and quilted along each side of the diagonal lines to leave the centers of the squares to shine.


  I am so honored and excited to have this two quilts be my first ever at Quilt Market, and so thankful for the opportunity to work with Blend Fabrics!
