Snow Fall- My Scraps Sketchathon!

Have you stopped by to see all the awesome things going on with the Sketchathon at My Scraps & More???  There are some seriously fantastic sketches by the DT members!

I am sharing one today that is a favorite of mine lately!

We had a LOT of snow this winter and there were literally MOUNDS of it everywhere, espeically after shoveling.  The kids liked standing in front of a pile and falling back into it and then looking up at the falling snow!  I used the wonderfully colorful and fun Bundled Up collection from Crate Paper.

On my background, I started with white cardstock and then stitched a transparency on it from Webster's Pages.  This embellishment is from the Crate 3D embellies pack.

I die cut a whole bunch of snowflakes and then just scattered them on my page.  I dusted off my Stickles and added some glitter sparkle on them.

Finally, I just tucked some tags and a few other embellies on the page and it was done!  The only patterned paper on the page is that strip in the middle!

Lots of Feelings in these Glitz pages....

I have had a crazy summer.  We moved from Houston back to central NY after having lived there for 5 years.  When I first moved to Texas, I was very homesick.  But over the years, I really got connected, and I was surprised at how sad I was when it was time to go.

While looking through my stash of Glitz goodies, low and behold there was a "Texas" and "New York" die cut in the Happy Travels Whatnots pack. They were perfect for me to use on this layout habit what I have been going through with this move.

I began by cutting out a Texas and New York State shape from the black background paper using my electronic die cutting machine and some svg files from the web.  I took a circle stencil and used the map stamp from the "Happy Travels" collection and stamped some maps in black on the black background for some tone on tone. 

I splattered some paint and then layered some papers, die cother and stickers. I left a large card for journalng that pulls out from the side of the page.

In contrast to my kinda gloomy page, I have been waiting to do this next page for such an long time. The Happy Travels epoxy stickers and the title stickers both have the phrases "I love you in the morning.  I love you in the afternoon.  I love you in the evening". Now, being a mom of a 3 year old, I know that those are the lyrics to the song skinamarinky dinky dink, which my daughter and mother happen to love singing to each other!

I stamped around the border of the pagea with a music note stamp from French Kiss collection.

I was thinking of the color of the sun in the morning, afternoon, and evening, so I used some circles with those colors and added phrase stickers to them.  I also cut out a Vintage Blue peek-a-booain't I some heart shapes and layered them on the circles, too.

O is for Overlays- GCD Studios ABC's

Overlays, like vellum and transparencies, can add layers to your projects, yet still give you the ability to see what else is going on your page underneath.  There are lots of ways you can alter them, too.

On my layout I used 3 different transparencies. The alphabet one I just cut into large rectangles and layered behind my photos. The yellow zig zag one I fussy cut out and layered some below and some above.  You can see that I used some mists and paints on my overlays, too.

Finally, I cut thin strips in a third, white-striped one and stitched and punched some small hearts.

Here are some more ideas of how you can use transparencies:

• paint them
• stamp on the (with StazOn inks)
• mist on them (but they take forever to dry and will smear a bit...)
• emboss them
• punch them
• use them in a die cutting machine
• melt them with a heat tool (CAREFULLY because they can catch on fire!)
• stitch over them

Now go get those overlays and get creative!

Glitz July Projects-Enjoying SUMMER!

I was so inspired by this month's blog challenge that both of my layouts are based on summer events!  What's more summery than going for boat rides and eating S'mores??

I am still on my triangle kit (like last month's post!) and was playing around with some random pieces I had cut from some papers.  I wanted to work with a specific color combo and I just started laying them down.  It took a few tweeks and snips of the scissors here and there to get some of them to line up, but I really like how this came out.

I also stamped with some inks and a stencil to create a little starburst pattern, and used a large Peek-A-Boo for my title.

My next page was inspired by S'mores!  I chose brown and beige colored papers to represent the chocolate and graham crackers, and I knew I wanted to use a lot of white paint to be the sticky marshmallows.

I thought my page needed a bit more color, and while browseing through my Glitz papers scrap pile, I came across this yellow paper that I used some cut some doilies on a previous page (I has used the paper pattern on the other side, though).

For my title, I wrote the word "S'mores" on some brown paper and just cut it out with my scissors and added some glossy accents!  Doesn't it look like melted chocolate? A simple, easy way to do your titles!
