Creative Scrappers is BACK! Process video for "Dems"...

I am SOO excited to announce that Creative Scrappers is back and I will be a part of the Design Team again for the next term!  Check out the awesome sketch Kristine created for this month:

Here is the page that I created using a whole bunch of goodies from my stash!  It feels SO go to go through my stash!

As I look back on this page, I can't believe how many DIFFERENT products I used: acetate, stickers, chipboard, pockets, tags, brags, enamel dots, mists, stitching....a ton of stuff!

I have gotten on the process video bandwagon and put together this process video of how I made this page!  I also explain what "DEMS" actually means!  :)

Hot Tubbin'

I recently got the urge to start looking for some good scrappy challenges.  Nothing gets my mojo going like a challenge that I really want to complete!

A friend pointed me in the direction of the current challenge at ScrapOur Stash to use this book cover as inspiration.

I had these photos of the hubby and kids swimming and playing in my MIL's hot tub already printed out, so I thought they would go well with these inspiration image.

I began by pulling out orange, greens, and aqua blues from my stash to match the image.  I also tried to find that maroon-ish red, but that was a bit more challenging.

I also really wanted to find something to go along with those faces!   I remembered that there was a piece of paper int he Studio Calico Amelia line that had a sunshine face on it, and when I pull it out, i couldn't believe how perfect it was!

I wanted to add a wave to the bottom of the page, and chose this cut file from the Just Nick store.  I LOVE this wave shape.  I welded 2 together to make my border.  I was going to leave it white on white, but then I decided I wanted to ad a bit more color to it, so I did a little watercolor wash with some mists and gelatos.  I like the color MUCH better.

When I was done, I didn't like how much white space there was, and I wanted to do something to bring the design together.  I traced a large arc on the page and then stitched over it with orange thread.  I like how it mimics the shape of the sun.

I seriously piked through my stash for this page.  Chipboard from MME, die cuts from Jillibean, alphas from an OLD Close to my Heart collection!  It feels good to use stuff!

Scrappin' Our Stash Monthly Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Scrappin' Our Stash Monthly Blog Hop!   A group of us get together every month and create something with our stash!  It's a great way to encourage each other to use up what we have.  You should get a group of friends together and do it, too!

Today I am sharing a page with some older Studio Calico goodies from the South of Market collection.  I bought this collection last year to use with some photos of a farm trip that we went on.  Well we went to the farm again this year, so I thought I'd use some more up!

I started by layering some large triangle shaped pieces of paper on the left and put a border sticker on the edge.   I added some vellum behind my photo to make it stand out more.

And nothing says "farm" more than a little burlap, so I raided my stash for some burlap bits.  The flower cluster is from Little Yellow Bicycle and the other burlap bits are from Simple Stories.

I finished it off with some stitching and some mist splatters.

Scrapping Your Stash Monthly Blog Hop: 5 & Happy!

Welcome to the Practical Scrappers "Scrapping Our Stash" monthly blog hop!   On the last Friday of each month, a group of us share a project with older stash that we haven't used in a while.  Hop along the blog list below to see a ton of great projects making the "old", NEW again!

My daughter just turned 5 a few weeks ago and we threw a tea party for her and her friends!  The girls each got a hat that they decorated with feathers and flowers and they each got a tea cup and saucer to take home, too (thank you Salvation Army!).

For her invites, I found a tea cup card cut file (see more details below) and used some old Basic Grey "Sweet Threads" paper for pattern (these are at least 2-3 years old!).  As I was going through the papers, I realized how much I loved them, so I decided to bring them back for this page as well.

I was inspired by a quick little tutorial I saw at ScrapMuch? by Laura.  You simply cut a scalloped punched piece at the highest points instead of the valleys.  Anyways, I cut all these pieces out from lots of different patterns and created a "wreath" like pattern on the background.  Before I glued the papers down, I stitched concentric circles around the page, put the papers down, and stitched a circle around them, as well.  Then I outlined some of the punched shapes with a thin black pen to make them stand out a bit more.

There are a few mist splatters on the background and some chipboard pieces also from the Sweet Thread collection. You can also faintly see some polka dots that I lightly stamped with a black ink.

I wanted to make this page really look frilly, so I used some pearls (along with the frilly punch to create the wreath pieces), pink, and flowers.  What's more girly than that? :)

The #5 was cut with my Cameo and the "Happy" was a sticker from the collection, too!

Scrap Your Stash BLOG HOP *Practical Scrappers*

Welcome to the Practical Scrappers Scrap Your Stash Blog Hop!  You should have arrived here from Jennifer Haggerty's Blog! A whole bunch of us have gotten together to tackle our mounds and piles of scrap goodness that has been left to the wayside and is collecting dust as new products continually find their way to the front of our scrap desks!

I, personally, have been trying to scrap my stash more and trying NOT to buy as much (but is is SO hard!).  So I try to incorporate a little something from my stash here and there.

But for today, I did an entire page devoted to using my older stash.  It's not new news that I love working with Crate Paper products, so I used up some papers and embellishments from Acorn Ave, The Pier, and Close Knit.

I started by using a stencil and some gesso on the background.  It was a little too white, so I tried wiping it off, and it left a lighter cover, and I was happy with that!  Then I splattered some mists and water colors here and there.

For my page design, I was inspired by a sketch at Skissedilla, and used strips of paper, distressed them, and then stitched them down with a mix of straight and zig zag stitches. Then I used a few other patterns to mat my photos.

The rest was just clustering of embellishments: stickers, chipboard, brads, labels.....all tucked here and there around my photo.

I spent an HOUR looking for the wagon chipboard piece that I KNEW I had seen somewhere before.  And just FYI, if you ever need a wagon, there is one in the Crate Paper Close Knit die cuts (NOT the one on my page), and this chipboard one from Crate Paper Acorn Ave. (and that collection also has one printed on a card and a wood veneer one, too!).

Scrappin' my stash...some old Crate Paper

Every Thursday on the My Scraps & More forums is a "Throwback Thursday" challenge where we challenge you to use your stash that is at LEAST a year old.

When I started to think about scrapping these photos of my kiddos with the lollipops that Grandma gave them, I remembered a chipboard lollipop in the Emma's Shoppe collection from a few years ago.   I REALLY loved that collection and decided to use some more of it up!

I started by using some Gelatto's and water, and then going over it with a stencil and modeling paste.

Behind my photos, I added a few frame shapes cut from papers and just a few simple strips.

I layered lots of chipboard pieces, flair, and die cuts.

My title I cut with my Cameo and outlined with a black pen.  And lastly I scattered about some fun small bits like brads, sequins, chipboard, and tiny die cuts!

I really should scrap my stash more often!  It is fun coming back to these old collections and making them NEW again!
