Glitz Designs "Uncharted Waters" Blog Hop

Welcome to the Glitz "Uncharted Waters" blog hop!  Today the design team has created some fabulous projects with this nautical themed collection to share with you today!

I fell in love with this collection when I first saw it because of the anchors!  We spend a lot of time in on the lake and the St. Lawrence River in the summer, so I always have a ton of water photos to use.  I created this page of my daughter fishing off the dock on the lake!

I stamped the little whale onto patterned paper and then cut him out.  I colored in the flower on the front with a white pen and popped him off the page.  You will also see that I used the arrow roller stamp along the bottom edge and heat embossed with clear powder.

I wanted to use some type of string on my page, so I just let some thin jute wander around my title a bit.  I also wanted to add a few bits of pink to complement my daughters shirt, so I just punched a few holes and scattered them around, too.

Stuck on Glitz Designs...2 peas and lake life

This weeks theme at Glitz Designs is all about using all the lovely varieties of Glitz stickers!  There are so so many to choose from!

Some of my favorite stickers are the Puffy Epoxy Stickers.  I love how this little stickers are just the right size, can add a little sentiment, plus have some dimension and shininess, too!  So I went to town with them....

Charlotte is a mini me.  Even my mother says so. Its the little things that I see that make me say shes just like me.  Like the time we were in the car and the radio was on and a Metallica song came on (Sanatarium) and she said, "I like that song mommy".  Or how every time she eats spinach she says, "mmmm.....YUM!" and means it.

I started by sticking a whole bunch of the epoxy stickers on a piece of white cardstock.  I tried to like up the stickers as much as I could to not show any white space.  I drew a heart shape on a separate sheet of paper so I could gaged how many stickers I needed and where I should put them.  Once I had all the stickers laid down and there was no white space left, I cut out the heart shape.  Then I inked the edges in black and glued it on a other piece of paper so that I could stitch a blue border around it with my machine.

On the background of my page, I used a stencil and some yellow and pink inks, which i blended a bit to make a bit of an orange.  Then I splattered with some bright blue mist.  All these colors are also in the sticker heart.

On the rest of the page, I just layered some papers, What Nots, washi, giant rhinestones, and a few other stickers here and there.

On this next page I started with a whole bunch of journaling stickers from various collections.  I chose ones that matched the colors of my photo, and then the yellows to add some contrast.

I have such bad cabin fever this year.  This is our first winter back in NY and I REALLY miss the sunshine of Texas.  But I do love the summers up here so much.  This is the dock at my parents cottage in the Finger Lakes...I grew up on this lake and we spend most of the summer there.  The lake has many moods and the days can be so different from one to the next.

I took the journaling stickers and cut the ends off of them and layered them on the bottom to create a border.  Then I added a title sticker from the "Uncharted Waters" collection.  On my background paper, I used some gesso and a stencil to create the dots.

I took the other ends of the stickers and trimmed them, too, to stick under my photo to create some nice layers and depth.

Stickers are for sure one of my favorite embellishments!

Little Man- GCD Studios "Charleston"

With some many collections released by GCD, it's hard to pick a favorite, BUT the "Charleston" collection might be mine!  :)  The colors of some of the papers were perfect for this page about my little man.

I cut a whole bunch of 1/2" strips of the different patterned papers, and glued them to a scrap piece of paper at a 45 degree angle.  Then I cut that piece and added a thin strip on the left side of my page and a larger piece on the right.  This is also a great technique to use up some of those paper strips that are left after trimming the barcode off your papers!

I added some stitched over the seams. and fussy cut some flowers and scattered them on the page.  My journaling is along the left edge.

My title I actually wrote by hand with an app on my iPad, saved the image, and then used my die cutting machine and SCAL2 to cut it out!!  I love that this is my own handwriting!  :)

Photo Alterations...Inspriation Elevator

You may recall that the purpose of the Inspiration Elevator challenge group is to take our scrapbooking to the next level, to stretch our creative process and to grow as artists by embracing challenges that make us think, work and grow. You can view all of the challenges on my blog by clicking HERE.

CHALLENGE:
This month, our challenge comes from the very sweet and very talented Joanne Burton. Joanne resides in Waterloo and co-owns a scrapbook store there with her bff. Her scrapbooking style is classicly elegant and always showcases wonderful photos. It's no wonder that her challenge to is centered around the photo - here is the challenge, in Joanne's own words:

Inspiration Elevator has been such a tremendous experience for me! We have explored our style, stretched our single pages into two, documented our fears and regrets, scrapbooked our beliefs, worked with less than perfect photos and have even gone vintage! Hopefully we have each grown as a result of being a part of this group – I know I have! 

One of the fun things about scrapbooking is working with our photos. We get to pick and choose our favorite photos and have fun recording the memories behind them. So this month, I thought we could stretch our creativity by having some fun with our photos!

I assume we all work with digital photos, so this month’s challenge will work for each of you. I want you to pick a photo and then alter it in some way using your favorite photo editing program. I would like to see something more than just making your photo black & white. Maybe use a special effect, add a frame, play with text, etc. There is so much you can do!

Play with your photo until it conveys a particular look or feel that will help you to express your memories associated with that picture. Then add it to your page! When you post your finished project, please share how you altered your photo, and why you chose the effects you did. (Maybe you could even post a before and after of your photo!)

My Take:

I came across this free photo overlay for Photoshop when someone posted it on Facebook.  I have never worked with overlays before, but followed the directions (and watched a few YouTube videos) and I enjoyed playing with it a bit.  You can find the heart overlay HERE (its free!) from Somewhat Simple.  I had just chosen a recent photo, and wasn't intending on using it, but after playing with it a bit, I like the way it turned out and decided to use it!

Charlotte sometimes gets my point and shoot out and starts taking photos of everything.  We got this great little shot of the three of us.  But as SOON as I get behind the camera, they disappear and won't look at it!  :)

I just got a huge stash of Fancy Pants papers from My Scraps & More.  This is the "Trendsetter" collection.  I love this color combo of navy aqua and pink that has been showing up everywhere (Crate Maggie Holmes, AC Dear Lizzy, Glitz Uncharted Waters) I cut apart all the tags from one of the patterned papers and layered them to create a mat for my photo.  On a few of them I added some Navy twine. Directly behind my photo, I used some light blue vellum (which I found in a clearance bin at AC Moore for like 10 cents!)

On my background, I heat embossed some doily stamps in white and splattered some navy and pink ink.
Another little cluster of some tags, a badge, chipboard, and a button near my title area.

My Little Snow Man! and *WINNERS*

We had so much fun playing in the snow....back in December.  Now I am sick of it!  :)
This was the first time Kyler got to play in the snow.  It was up over his knees and he could hardly move.  He fell down a few times and his gloves came off once or twice, but overall, I'd say he liked it!  I mean, just look at this face:

I used a sketch created by Diana Fisher exclusively for the Sketch-A-Thon this month at My Scraps & More.  You can visit the forums HERE to see the sketch!

On the background, I first added a layer of gesso, and then drew some circles with my Versamark Pen.  I added some gold embossing powder and heat embossed.  The photo doesn't give the glitter justice!!  It has such a great shimmer in person.

I also used a stamp set from the MME Collectable line and stamped these "flowery" shapes which I used as snowflakes.  I heat embossed them with white powder and fussy cut them out (can you tell I have been on a heat embossing kick lately?!)  Then I added an epoxy sticker to the center of each and scattered them on the page.

Other than that, I just layered some papers, die cuts, chipboard, and washi tape and stitched a little here and there!

A spring wreath....

Even though we still have a lot of snow on the ground and the 10 day forecast doesn't have have a day over 40, I am ready for spring!  Perhaps if I decorate for spring, Mother Nature will see my lovely decor and be inspired to get the ball rolling???

Well here you go Mother Nature: a bright spring wreath on my front door!

 

 I simple wrapped a foam wreath shape with fun fur yarn and then tied a pretty yellow ribbon on top.

 

I used some flowers from the Basically Bare Blossoms & Leaves set, covered the chipboard ones with paper and misted the felt ones with some pastel colors.  

I layered them all up and added a brad in the middle. I also covered a chipboard bird, too.  On all the pieces, I covered them with a thin layer of Frosted Sorbet gel paint from Art Anthology.  The pieces got stuck right into the wreath with some floral picks. I added a few organza leaves which I cut by hand.

I was honored to have a layout published in this sketch book.  Although I can't share the sketch with you, here is a look at my page:

Guess what grandma and grandpa got the kiddos for Christmas?  Wheels!  They are so spoiled!

This was a fun page to do.  I like the grid design of the squares of papers.  I used a chevron stencil and some white paint on the background and splattered with gold and black paint.

I just added some chipboard pieces from MME, and a few other bits from MME, Basic Grey, and Crate Paper.

Love This Family! GCD Studios "Pure Bliss"

Hello everyone!  Audrey here to share a layout with the new "Pure Bliss" collection.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the prints and colors in this line.  Although the colors are a bit on the pastel side, they still worked perfectly for this photo of our family in the fall.

I cut and distsressed some strips of papers of a similar shade and then stitched them to create a mat for my photo.  I used some more strips on the bottom left of the page and an area to ground my title.  I stitched around the photo to create a frame.

I used a heart stencil and the crossword paper, and brushed with some watered down blue paint.  Then I cut the hearts out and outlined them with a black pen.  I fussy cut some flowers and come circles and layered them across the page.  For my journaling, I just wrote on some strips of paper and scattered them around the page.

Eggs....for Christmas...CS #250

Wanna hear a cute story?

We went to go visit Santa Claus.  Charlotte got up on his lap and he of course asked her what she wanted for Christmas.  I really didn't know what she was going to say because I hadn't asked her myself, yet.

So she sat and smiled and then replied, "Eggs!"

I wasn't quite sure that I heard her right, so I said, "Charlotte, honey, what did you say?"

"Eggs!", she said.

Santa and I looked at each other.  Puzzled, I said, "Honey, why do you want eggs for Christmas"?

And she so casually said, "So I can make a cake!"

Do you know how hard it is to find WHITE plastic Easter eggs at CHRISTMAS time?  Oh yes, they HAD to be white.

Santa made a special gold glitter covered egg carton and wrapped it with a big red bow, and Charlotte got her eggs for Christmas!  (BTW, I hear that white plastic eggs only cost around $2 online for a dozen, but you have to pay $10 in shipping...I mean it was the ONLY thing she asked for...)

I'm so sad this is the last sketch for Creative Scrappers for a while!  It has been a source of inspiration and a starting point for years!

I took the whole design of the sketch and scaled it down to a smaller version on the page.  I really liked doing the blocks of paper.  On my title, I machine stitched with some gold thread.  I love gold thread for Xmas pages.

Behind the photo, I wanted to add something to make it stand out more, so I used some modeling paste and a large circle stencil.  Then I splattered with gold mist.  The star I created by painting on vellum with gold Glimmer Glam, cutting out a star shape, and then added another prefab glitter star on top.

I did some layering of some little bits under my photo, and the decided to journal around the outside of the whole page.

This is another spring inspired project I want to share today.  The colors of the Crate Paper Maggie Holmes collection are the perfect spring palette.  And since spring reminds me of "new" things, I wanted to do a page celebrating some "new" REAL friendships I've made!  I got to spend a scrappy weekend with some of my good online friends, who are now my friends IRL: Heather Leopard, Diana Fisher, and Sara Zenger (whom are all on the blog hop list below!).

I cut out the doilies from the patterned paper and then stitched around them on the inside with some gold thread.

Behind my photo cluster, I did some more stitching with cream colored thread to add some more texture.

A lot of edge distressing as usual, and lots of layers.
