Snow Angel

About 5 days after we moved into our house, it poured snow...a good 10-12 inches, maybe even more!  While we were outside playing, I tried to teach Charlotte how to do a snow angel.  I told her to lay down and move her arms up and down, so she put them in the air, and then back down to the ground!  :)  She got the hang of it after a while!

I created this page for the focus on Triangles today at Practical Scrappers.  I wanted to do something different, and after a bit of thinking and brainstorming, I decided to create a burst pattern out of triangles.

I simply played around and skewed them, and then formed them into a burst shape.  I the pattern out of some plain white cardstock, backed the openings with patterned paper, and then misted the cut pieces and glued them to the page.

To add some more texture to the page, I embossed some vellum and then cut out the circle shapes and just scattered them on the page.  A few more funky die cut snowflakes with some epoxy sticker centers and a bit of white thread for texture and movement.

I have to say I am kinda in love with this page!  I love it when you have a vision in mind for a layout, and it comes out the way you planned!

The Odd Girl..31 days of GIVEAWAYS...free svgs

I am super excited to be a part of an AWESOME month of giveaways, tutorials, and how to's on The Odd Girl blog this month!

Lately I have been playing around with creating SVG files, so I thought I would make a few to share, and then show you how I used them!

I have a Cricut Expression and Sure Cuts A Lot 2.  It wasn't until the recent surge in die cutting techniques started that I really sought to learn just what SCAL2 can do.

I started with a vision in mind of a geometric pattern using circles.  I played around with the arrangement and came up with two patterns that I liked.  You can download EACH svg file by clicking the links below.

So now that I had these, what do I do with them?

For my first page, I decided I wanted the pattern to be big and bold. I used the Circle Burst 1 cut file.  I enlarged it and moved it to the side of my layout so it went off the edges.  I cut it directly from my background paper.

I wanted to use an ombre look with my accent papers, so I choose some shades of yellows and oranges and glued them behind my background.

I layered a few bits and around my photo, and created a visual triangle with some washi tape and embellies on the side and the title in the top corner.

 And how about those die cut leaves??  Are they adorable, too?  I'm so excited about these because I drew them and turned them into cut files myself!   Here's how:

First I drew my leaf shape on a piece of white paper with a pencil and then traced over it with a thicker black pen/marker.  I took a photo of it and edited it in photoshop adjusting the contrast and brightness so it was a very stark black on white image.

In SCAL2, I opened the image and traced it, and voila!  I simplified the cutting nodes, and it was done!

Next, I wanted to do something else with my circle burst patterns, so I decided I was going to use them to create little embellishments.

This time, I reduced the size of the pattern into 3 smaller designs.  I cut the designs out, and then cut each of the three circles out by hand.

My background contained some paint, splattered mist, and some tiny circles that I machine stitched over.  Guess where those tiny circle came from?  They were the leftover bits from the cut outs!  :)

I am just getting on a roll with these files and am starting to come up with all the different ways I can use them!  Here I have been playing around with using them as stencils for misting:
